Top Ten Dance Songs

Posted by Arthur Murray Dance on Wed, May 6, 2015 @ 09:05 AM

What’s a dance class without a playlist to dance to? Regardless of if you’re learning to dance for the first time, or if you’re choreographing a professional dance routine, every dance has to have a song to go with it.

Here at Arthur Murray Dance Center, we believe that dance should be fun and engaging. When the right song comes on, even the most inexperienced dancer can get excited about showing off their dance moves; even if their favorite move is the “lawn mower.”

Arthur Murray Dance wants to get you out on the dance floor and take your dance moves from your typical routine of the two-step and the finger snap, to the Jive and the Hustle. But no routine is complete without the perfect dance song to count your steps to.

We have a list of what we would consider the top ten dance songs that encourage people to dance--regardless of their skill level.

  1. “Shout” by The Isley Brothers
  2. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson
  3. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston
  4. “Y.M.C.A” by The Village People
  5. “Love Shack” by The B-52’s
  6. “Vogue” Madonna
  7. “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas
  8. “Single Ladies” by Beyonce
  9. “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles
  10. “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper

Celebrate International Dance Day

Posted by Arthur Murray Dance on Wed, Apr 15, 2015 @ 14:04 PM

arthurmurray_featured_celebrate1.jpgDance is an important part of life. People have been dancing for centuries as part of cultural traditions and for different celebratory events. Dance is so important in fact, the International Theatre Institute (ITI) was formed as a “World Organization for the Performing Arts.” In 1982, the ITI made International Dance Day an event to celebrate every year on the 29th of April.

At Arthur Murray Dance Center, we want to celebrate dance every day. We encourage people to sign up for dance classes and to engage with their creative side in order to join in the long-standing expressive art form that is dance.

If you’re wondering how you can celebrate International Dance Day this year,
we have some suggestions for you.

  • Engage with your friends and family. Ask your loved ones if they know of any traditional dances from their background or heritage, and then ask them to teach you!
  • Engage with your community. Find local gatherings that your community could be holding to gather people together to dance! These often include large outdoor dance classes.
  • Engage with your body. Whatever you do, don’t miss the opportunity to get up and move on International Dance Day. Even a dance party while you’re getting ready in the morning will help to get you into the spirit of the day.

Arthur Murray Dance Center wants to see everyone take the initiative and get into the swing of things by learning how to dance. If you’re wanting to improve your skill level, sign up for one of our dance classes today!
