The Merengue is a dance the has roots in the Dominican Republic from African slave peasant dances.
It is also said that the Merengue originated from a war hero named General Maringie when he returned from war, dancing on one leg. Either way, Merengue is a style of dance that continues to intoxicate the world. The music for the Merengue is written in 2/4 or 4/4 time, and sometimes in 6/8 time. The dance is a combination of a march, with cuban motion thrown into the mix.
