Back in the 1960’s and throughout the 70’s, dance clubs known as “discotheques,’ gained quite a bit of popularity.
With this new style of dance venue came an entire new dance genre known as “touch disco,” or more specificially, “the Hustle.” It marked the return of a dancing style where couples touched while dancing, and the ever energetic dance became a hit. Disco is typically written in 2/4 or 4/4 time with an emphasis on the bass. This style of melody and rhythm was based in the blues.
